What is an SNS 3-in-1 set?

One shade, three formats, one box. Every set on this page is a 1.5 oz jar of SNS Pro dip/acrylic powder, a 0.5 oz bottle of SNS Pro Healthy GelStar gel polish, and a 0.5 oz bottle of SNS Nail Lacquer, all carrying the same code from the same SNS Pro color book. The powder does the dip service (or an acrylic set, with monomer), the gel does the lamp-cured manicure, and the lacquer does the pedicure, and the client walks out in one color.

It's the set SNS has long sold as the Pro 3-in-1. You may see the powder jar labeled 4-in-1 or 5-in-1 on the box: that counts what the powder itself can do (dip and acrylic; or dip, acrylic and no activator step), not how many products are in the set. The set is always the same three pieces.

This page holds 816 shades: 144 to a book across the Blue, Pink, Beige and Burgundy books, and 120 each in the Green and Yellow Green books, whose powder is the no-activator kind. One code across powder, gel and lacquer

Matching a dip powder to a gel to a lacquer across brands doesn't work; pigment loads and base resins differ, and the same "nude" reads three ways under the lamp. We match all three formats of each code to one shade, which SNS calls MasterMatch, and we hold that match to 98 percent by our own measure. Our Nutri-Plus base and powder carry vitamins and minerals, and we formulate GelStar with vitamin E and calcium, so the three pieces are built as one system rather than three products that happen to share a number.

In a salon that means one swatch decision per client, whatever service she books. Dip on the hands and lacquer on the toes today; gel on the hands next month; the code never changes and the color wall stays honest.

The six books, one code

The Pro books are named for the cover, not the shades inside, so each one runs the whole spectrum. We counted the 816 swatches by color family; the numbers are in the comparison table further down.

Blue Book 3-in-1 Sets

The broadest single book: 40 pinks and mauves, 28 reds and corals, 20 blues and teals, 19 nudes, and 16 glitter or shimmer finishes. The one to open with if a salon stocks one book in all three formats.

Pink Book 3-in-1 Sets

The red book, despite the cover: 45 reds and corals, 25 blues and teals, 15 greens, and no glitter at all. Every finish is a solid cream, which is what a pedicure wall wants.

Beige Book 3-in-1 Sets

The neutral book: 45 pinks and mauves, 23 nudes and browns, 24 reds, and 16 glitters. The safest first book for a shop whose clients ask for soft pinks and office shades.

Burgundy Book 3-in-1 Sets

The deep bench: 27 blues and teals, 35 pinks and mauves, 25 dark shades, 15 whites and grays, and 15 glitters. The fall and winter book.

Green Book 3-in-1 Sets

The first of the two no-activator books, 120 shades: 33 pinks and mauves, 21 blues and teals, 19 nudes, 12 greens, and 8 glitters. The powder in these sets skips the activator step; the gel and the lacquer are the same as in every other book.

Yellow Green Book 3-in-1 Sets

The second no-activator book, 120 shades and the lightest bench of the six: 28 nudes and browns, 27 pinks and mauves, 15 greens, 15 blues and teals, and no glitter at all. Cream finishes throughout.

How do you pick a book?

• You already run one SNS book in dip. Buy the same book as 3-in-1 sets. The codes line up one to one, so every shade on your dip wall gains its gel and its lacquer without a re-swatch.
• You are opening a salon and want one book that covers most walk-ins. Blue Book, in 3-in-1, so dip, gel and pedicure are covered from day one.
• Your clients book pedicures and ask for reds. Pink Book: 45 reds and corals, all cream finishes.
• Your clients ask for nudes and neutrals. Beige Book first, then the Blue Book for accent shades.
• You need darks and navy for the cold months. Burgundy Book: 25 dark shades and 27 blues and teals.
• You want to skip the activator step. Green Book or Yellow Green Book: the same three pieces, with the no-activator powder in the jar.

The books compared

Counts are our read of the official swatch card for each shade, grouped by family; a glitter is counted in its family and in the glitter column, and dark shades are counted in their family and in the dark column. Screens shift color, so for a client decision match against the physical book.

Is the set cheaper than buying the pieces?

Barely, and we'd rather say so. In the four 144-shade books the same three pieces bought singly are the dip powder jar at $17.50 plus the Gel & Lacquer Duo at $10.75, which is $28.25. The 3-in-1 set is $28.00, a quarter less per shade for exactly the same bottles and jar. In the Green and Yellow Green books the pieces are $17.50 and $9.50 and the set is $27.00, which is exactly the sum. Buy the set for one box and one code on the shelf, not for the saving.

The powder in every set on this page is the dip/acrylic jar, and you don't need a lamp for it: it dips over the base, or it sculpts with monomer like an acrylic. The two SNS Pro books whose powder needs no activator step, Green and Yellow Green, are on this page as 3-in-1 sets at $27.00; their powder on its own is under SNS Pro No Activator.

How do you apply a matched set?

1. Prep once for all three: push back the cuticle, shape, buff the shine off, and wipe the plate with alcohol so no oil is left.
2. Dip, hands. A thin coat of dip base, dip into the powder, tap off, and repeat for two passes. Activator over the whole nail, then file and buff, then a second coat of activator. Two thin coats of dip top coat, sealing the free edge each time. With a Green or Yellow Green set, skip both activator coats; that powder needs none. No lamp anywhere in this step. 3. Gel, if the client wants gel instead. A thin coat of gel base, cured. Two thin coats of GelStar color, cured after each. Gel top coat, cured, then wipe the tacky layer. Base and top are under Base & Top Gel.
4. Lacquer, toes. Two coats of the SNS Nail Lacquer from the same box, air-dried. A top coat is optional.
5. Oil the cuticles and send the client out in one color from fingertip to toe.

Pro tip: pour the powder you are dipping into a small dish instead of dipping straight into the 1.5 oz jar. The jar stays clean, and the leftover in the dish goes back through a sieve into the jar at the end of the day.

Care and removal

• Cuticle oil daily. All three formats flex with the nail; a dry plate flexes more than the coating wants to, and that is where lifting starts.
• Gloves at the sink. Long soaks swell the nail under the coating, then it shrinks back and the seal at the edge gives.
• Never peel. Dip and gel both come off with an acetone soak: file the top, wrap, wait, and push the softened coating away. Lacquer comes off with ordinary remover.
