Frequently asked questions

Which shades come in the 12 oz jar?

The pink and white basics: Crystal Clear, Natural Pink, Candy Pink, Snow White, French White and Milky White, two shimmers (Shimmer Baby Pink and Shimmer Bunny White) and Ombre #1. Each jar holds one shade. The 48 numbered covers and the color line are sold in the 1.5 oz jar on our LAVIS 1.5oz page, so a station can keep its daily basics in 12 oz and everything else small.

Is the 12 oz powder the same as the 1.5 oz powder?

Yes, only the amount changes. Both sizes hold the same LAVIS 2-in-1 acrylic and dip powder under the same shade name, so a set started from a 1.5 oz jar can be filled from the 12 oz jar of the same shade. Many salons keep the daily clear, pink and white in 12 oz and the occasional shades in 1.5 oz.

Can I use it for both acrylic and dip?

Yes. For acrylic, pick up a bead with a brush and the acrylic liquid you already use; it sets in the air. For dip, paint a dip base coat, dip the nail into a tray of powder, then finish with activator and top. Neither method needs a UV or LED lamp. Decant a working amount for each method so liquid and base coat never get into the 12 oz jar.

Which three jars should a pink and white station start with?

One clear, one bed color and one white. Crystal Clear seals the smile line and encapsulates art. Natural Pink gives the classic sheer pink bed, and Candy Pink gives more color. Snow White or French White makes the tip. Add Milky White for soft milky sets, and Shimmer Baby Pink or Shimmer Bunny White when clients ask for a natural set with a little sparkle.

How should I store a 12 oz jar?

Keep it closed and dry, and never work straight from it. Fill a small working jar or dappen dish at the start of the day and close the 12 oz jar again. Clumps come from a wet acrylic brush or a nail with dip base on it touching the powder, so keep one working jar for acrylic and one for dip.

What is LAVIS Acrylic & Dipping Powder 12oz?

This page holds the 12 oz jars of LAVIS Acrylic & Dip Powder: the clear, pink, white and shimmer shades that a pink and white station uses every day, in a larger jar than the 1.5 oz size. Each jar carries one shade, and each shade is the same 2-in-1 powder sold in the small jars. Pick it up with acrylic liquid and a brush for sculpted acrylic, or use it as a dip powder over a dip base. Neither method needs a UV or LED lamp.

LAVIS sells these powders as base layer or color layer powders, and any LAVIS powder can be mixed with another to build a custom pink or nude. We keep the 1.5 oz jars, including the 48 numbered covers and the color line, on the LAVIS 1.5oz page, and the 5 lb salon tubs on the LAVIS 80oz page.

The shades in 12 oz

The names below come from the jar labels. Powder looks a little different on screen than in the jar, so treat the photos as a guide.

  • Clear: Crystal Clear, for encapsulating glitter or flowers, sealing a smile line, or a clear overlay on a natural nail.
  • Bed pinks and nudes: Natural Pink for a sheer, classic pink bed and Candy Pink when the client wants more color on the bed.
  • Tip whites: Snow White, French White and Milky White. Milky White also works as a soft, whole-nail milky set.
  • Shimmers: Shimmer Baby Pink and Shimmer Bunny White, the same pink and white jobs with a fine shimmer, for a natural set with a little sparkle.
  • Ombre #1: a powder for the gradient part of an ombre set.

Why buy the 12 oz jar?

A pink and white station goes through the same few powders on almost every client. The 1.5 oz jar of a bed pink or tip white can run out in a busy week, and every new jar means another order and another label. The 12 oz jar keeps that shade on hand much longer, and it keeps fills and rebalances coming from the same jar as the original set.

We suggest buying in 12 oz only the shades you open daily, usually one clear, one bed pink and one white. Keep the skin-tone covers, which come in the 1.5 oz jar, and the color shades in 1.5 oz. If several stations share the same pink and white, the 5 lb tub on our 80oz page may suit you better.

How do you build a pink and white set?

The jars cover the powder only, so pair them with the acrylic liquid you already use and follow that liquid's directions.

  1. Prep. Push back the cuticle, remove the shine from the nail plate, wipe clean, and fit a tip or form if you are extending.
  2. Smile line. Place a bead of Snow White or French White on the free edge and press the smile line into shape before it sets.
  3. Bed. Place a bead of Natural Pink or Candy Pink behind the white and blend it toward the cuticle area without touching the skin.
  4. Seal. A thin layer of Crystal Clear over both keeps the smile line crisp and adds depth.
  5. Finish. Once the acrylic has set hard, file, refine the smile line, buff and seal with your usual top coat.

For dip, keep the same order: white on the tip, the bed color over the whole nail, Clear over both, then activator, shaping and top. Base, activator and top are on our Dip Essentials page, and brushes are on the Brush page.

Sets you can build from these jars

Every set below uses only jars on this page, which is why a pink and white station can offer a short natural-set menu without opening a single color jar.

  • Natural overlay. Natural Pink over a short natural nail, as a thin acrylic bead or two thin dip coats, with Crystal Clear on top. It suits the client who wants strength without visible color.
  • Classic French. Snow White or French White on the tip, Natural Pink on the bed and Crystal Clear over both for a clean, high-contrast smile line.
  • Milky French. Milky White over the whole nail with Snow White on the tip, for a soft French with less contrast.
  • Shimmer set. A Natural Pink bed with Shimmer Baby Pink as the last layer, or Shimmer Bunny White on the tip, for a natural set that catches the light.
  • Encapsulated art. A Natural Pink or Candy Pink bed, glitter or dried flowers laid on top, and Crystal Clear over everything to seal them in.

For a skin-matched bed, use one of the 48 numbered covers from our 1.5oz page. Hold the jar against the side of the finger: the shade that disappears at the sidewall is the client's natural nude, and one step lighter reads as a clean French bed.

Working from a large jar

  • Decant for the station. Fill a small working jar or dappen dish from the 12 oz jar and work from that. The large jar stays clean.
  • Never dip into the large jar. A wet acrylic brush or a nail with dip base on it makes the powder clump.
  • Separate acrylic and dip. Keep one working jar for each method.
  • Keep the lid on. Close the jar between uses so dust, filings and moisture stay out.
  • Out of reach of children. Store the jars closed, dry and away from the lamp and other heat.
