Frequently asked questions

Which C drops are cat eye and which are plain gel polish?

C09 through C16 carry magnetic pigment and are cat eye: a magnet held over the wet second coat pulls the shimmer into a band, and without one they cure as ordinary shimmer colors. C01 to C08 and C17 are conventional gel polish, in cream, jelly, pearl and glass finishes depending on the drop. If you are buying inside C09 to C16, add a magnet to the same order or the shades will not do what the swatches show.

How many shades are in a drop?

Twenty-five or twenty-six in most of them, with C08 at twenty-four. That is already a wall section, which is why we suggest buying one drop at a time rather than two: twenty-five shades chosen to work together will sell better than fifty shades split across two themes. There are also 48-color sets that pair two drops in one box, which suit a salon opening a wall from scratch. We list the exact count on each drop page so you can check before ordering.

Why buy a collection instead of picking single shades?

Because a named collection is a shortcut for both of you. A client can ask for 'the green from Secret Garden' and get an answer immediately, where 'a sage green' starts a hunt through the wall. A drop also photographs as a set, so a seasonal post looks like a launch rather than a restock. Singles are still the right way to fill a gap, and every shade here can be bought on its own from its drop page.

How do I reorder a shade I have run out of?

By drop name and shade number together, never by number alone. Shade numbers repeat across drops, and Lavis also reissues collections under the same number with a different theme, so 'C03-06' is ambiguous while 'C03 Pretty in Pearl, shade 06' is not. Keep the full collection name on your stock list. Note too that the second C03, Sundaze Gloss, is not currently live on the storefront.

What is the Lavis C series?

The main Lavis gel polish line, released as seventeen numbered drops rather than as one flat shade chart. Each drop holds 25 or 26 shades chosen to work together and given a name, so C01 Jelly Jamboree and C14 Secret Garden are not just batches of color, they are edits. The idea is that a salon buys a story: a drop fills a wall section that looks deliberate, photographs as a set, and gives clients something to ask for by name.

This page is the whole series in one grid. The chips above jump to individual drops, and each drop has its own page with the full shade list.

The seventeen drops

There is a second C03, Sundaze Gloss, which is not currently on the storefront.

Which drops are cat eye?

C09 through C16. Those eight drops carry magnetic pigment, so a magnet held over the wet second coat pulls the shimmer into a band; without one they cure as ordinary shimmer colors. That is why they also appear on Lavis Cat Eye and on Cat Eye Gel, All Brands. The remaining drops, C01 to C08 and C17, are conventional gel polish: creams, jellies, pearls and glass finishes depending on the drop.

It is worth knowing before ordering, because a salon that buys C11 expecting a plain color wall will find it needs a magnet from Cat Eye Magnets to sell the shades properly.

How do you choose a drop?

  • Season first. The drops are built around moods: brights and jellies for summer, mochas and spice for autumn, pearls and glass for the party months, florals and pastels for spring.
  • Then finish. C08 Glass Gala and C03 Pretty in Pearl are finish-led drops; C05 Neon Obsession is the bright one; C06 Maple & Mocha is the neutral one that sells all year.
  • Then effect. If you want the cat eye upcharge on the menu, buy inside C09 to C16 and add a magnet.
  • One drop at a time. Twenty-five shades is already a wall section. Buying two drops at once usually means half of both sit unused.
  • Keep a neutral drop permanent and rotate a themed one each season, which is how most salons use the series.

Applying Lavis gel polish

  1. Prep. Cuticle back, shine off the plate, dust, dehydrate. Most peeling is prep.
  2. Base, cured. From Base & Top Gel, or a rubber base if the natural nail flexes.
  3. Two thin color coats, curing between them. One thick coat wrinkles and cures unevenly.
  4. If it is a cat eye drop, leave the second coat uncured, hold the magnet a few millimeters above for five to ten seconds, then flash cure that nail before moving on.
  5. Top coat, cured, capping the free edge.

Everything cures under a standard UV/LED lamp; see Nail Lamps. Removal is a soak-off.

Why buy a drop instead of singles?

Because a wall of unrelated shades is harder to sell from than a wall that looks curated, and because a named collection gives a client a shortcut. "Do you have the green from Secret Garden" is a request a tech can answer instantly; "do you have a sage green" starts a five-minute hunt. A drop also photographs as a set, which is what makes a seasonal post look like a launch rather than a restock. Singles still have their place for filling gaps, and every shade on this page can be bought on its own from the drop's page.

How we use the series on this site

We keep a page for every drop rather than folding them into one long shade chart, because that is how the range is actually bought and how people search: the traffic reaching this hub is dominated by shade-level queries such as a specific C17 number, which tells us shoppers arrive knowing the drop and the shade they want. So this page is a map rather than a destination. Use it to see the series at a glance and to work out which drop a shade belongs to, then follow the link into that drop, where the full shade list, the swatches and the set options live. If you are buying for a salon rather than replacing one bottle, the drop pages are also where the 24 and 48-color sets sit.

Stock and reorder notes

  • Reorder by drop name and shade number, because numbers repeat across drops and across Ver 2 reissues.
  • Around 26 of the active shades are out of stock at any time, and 25 more sit as drafts, including the whole C03 Sundaze Gloss drop.
  • Swatch on sticks. Jelly, pearl and glass finishes photograph very differently from how they wear.
  • The 48-color sets on this page pair two drops in one box if you are opening a wall from scratch.

What finish does each kind of drop give?

The C series is not one formula in seventeen palettes; the drops differ in finish as well as in color, and that is usually what decides which one suits a salon. A cream drop covers in two thin coats and is the workhorse of any wall. A jelly drop is translucent, so it builds depth over three coats and reads very differently over a white base than over bare nail. A pearl or glass drop carries fine particles that shift in the light, which photographs beautifully and hides ridges, but needs a smooth surface underneath or the texture shows. The cat eye drops behave as shimmer colors until a magnet is used. If you are choosing a first drop for a mixed clientele, a cream-led one is the safe answer; the finish-led drops earn their place once the wall already covers the basics.
