Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between Crystal Twinkle and Diamond Twinkle?

The pigment, and so the line. Crystal Twinkle carries a magnetic shimmer that pulls into a fine, sharp streak with a shift that moves as the light does. Diamond Twinkle carries a diamond-like sparkle plus magnetic pigment, so its line is broader and bolder and the whole nail reads as a jewel. Both are 24 shades, both formulated without HEMA and TPO, both soak-off, and both go over the same base and under the same top. Pick Crystal for everyday cat eye, French tips, accent nails and matte velvet looks; pick Diamond for statement sets.

Do I need a magnet, and where do I get one?

Yes. Without a magnet the gel cures as an even shimmer with no streak. Any nail magnet works: hold it a few millimeters above the wet second coat for five to ten seconds, keep the hand still, then flash cure. Our Cat Eye Magnets collection carries straight, shaped and multi-line magnets; add one to the first cat eye order, because the gel on its own cures as a plain shimmer.

Which shades should a salon start with?

Four to six singles rather than the set: two dark shades for the classic streak, two light shades for French and accent work, and one or two mid-tones. The shades are numbered 01 to 24 and the swatch on each listing shows the line pulled, so pick from the grid, and treat the swatch as a guide because a shimmer shifts on screen more than a flat color does. Buy the set of 24 once cat eye is a named service on your menu.

How long does a Crystal Twinkle cat eye last?

As long as the top coat does. The streak is locked inside the cured gel, so it does not fade or rub; what ages is the top, and a fresh glossy top at week two brings the shine back without redoing the line. There is nothing to fill: when the nail grows out, soak off and redo. Wear time itself depends on prep and the client's hands, the same as any gel color.

What is Crystal Twinkle cat eye gel?

Crystal Twinkle is the finer of our two cat eye lines. Each bottle is a gel color loaded with magnetic shimmer pigment: painted on, it reads as a shimmer polish; held under a nail magnet while wet, the pigment gathers into one sharp streak that sits inside the color and shifts as the hand turns. The streak is what people mean by "crystal cat eye": a thin, bright line rather than a wide field of sparkle.

All 24 shades are formulated without HEMA and without TPO, and they soak off like any other gel. We say that as a description of what we left out of the formula, not as a promise about anyone's skin; it is the line we point a client to when they have reacted to gel before and still want the effect.

Crystal Twinkle or Diamond Twinkle?

Both lines share the same base formula and the same 24-shade size; the pigment is what differs. Our general Cat Eye Gel page holds both lines side by side. This page is the Crystal line on its own.

The 24 shades and the set

The shades are numbered 01 through 24; the swatch on each listing shows the shade with its line pulled. Screens shift color, especially with a shimmer that changes under light, so treat the swatch as a guide and the bottle on the nail as the truth. Every shade sells as a single bottle, and the set of 24 puts the full line on the wall in one order.

A salon that is new to cat eye usually opens with four to six singles: two darks for the classic look, two lights for French and accent work, and one or two of the mid-tones that photograph well. The set is for the wall that already books cat eye by name and wants every shade a client might point to.

How do you get the fine line?

The technique is the same as any cat eye, with two habits that matter more for a fine line than for a broad one: thin coats, and a magnet that does not move once the streak forms.

  1. Prep and base. Push back, buff the shine off, wipe clean, then a thin coat of gel base, cured. Base and top are under Base & Top Gel.
  2. Optional dark bed. One cured coat of black or navy from SNS Gel Only makes the streak read brighter. Skip it when you want the shade's own color around the line.
  3. First coat of Crystal Twinkle, cured. Thin and even, no magnet. This coat is the color.
  4. Second coat, magnet, hold. A slightly fuller coat, and while it is wet hold a magnet from Cat Eye Magnets a few millimeters above the nail, lengthwise for the classic streak or at an angle for a diagonal. Five to ten seconds, hand still. For the finest line, use the edge of the magnet rather than its face.
  5. Flash cure, then the next nail. A few seconds under the lamp locks the line before the pigment relaxes. Do all five, then a full cure.
  6. Top coat. Glossy top seals the streak. A matte top over Crystal Twinkle gives the velvet cat eye that this line does better than the broader one.

Every coat cures under a UV/LED lamp; our cordless lamp is under Nail Tools & Accessories. Removal is a soak-off: file the top, wrap in acetone, wait, push.

Looks that suit a fine line

  • Classic streak: the magnet held straight down the center. On a dark shade it is the look most clients picture when they say cat eye.
  • French cat eye: a light shade on the bed, the streak pulled only across the free edge. Crystal's fine line keeps the smile line crisp.
  • One accent nail: a plain gel set with Crystal Twinkle on the ring finger, magnet on a diagonal, so the streak crosses the nail as the hand moves.
  • Velvet: a mid-tone shade, straight streak, matte top. The line stays visible under matte in a way a broad sparkle does not.
  • Layered with a pearl or chrome nail: cat eye on some fingers, pearl gel or chrome on others, the same base and top across the set. Effects sit under one top coat, so a mixed set cures and wears as one.

Care, wear and the magnet

  • The line does not wear off. It is inside the cured gel; the set lasts as long as the top coat holds, and a fresh glossy top at week two brings the shine back without touching the streak.
  • No fills. Cat eye is a color, not a structure. When the nail grows out, remove and redo. Put structure underneath with Builder Gel if the client wants length.
  • Keep the magnet away from the bottles. A magnet left beside an open bottle drags the pigment to one side of the glass; the next coat comes out patchy until the bottle is rolled back.
  • Roll, do not shake. Rolling the bottle mixes the shimmer without air bubbles that show as pits in a fine line.
  • Cap between nails. Shimmer gels thicken if the bottle sits open next to a running lamp.
