How to Fix a Chipped or Broken Nail

Luckily, no matter how big or small, there’s no need to let a chip completely ruin your mani. Here are some expert tips to fix a chipped nail, prevent it from getting worse, and keep your nails looking flawless and beautiful. Minor Chip A small chip definitely doesn’t need to be the end-all-be-all. However, a small chip has the potential of getting worse. If you have a minor chip in your mani simply file away the chipped part to a smooth finish and apply a chip-resistant top coat remembering to seal the edges. This will prevent the chip from getting worse. Small Tear One of the most frustrating kinds of chips in your nail is when it tears from the side. This often tends to get caught on things that can actually make it worse or rip it off completely. The good news is, you can most likely fix your nail with things you have in your home. Things you’ll need: Nail file/buffer A tea bag Clear Base Coat and Top Coat Polish of Choice Remove your polish, file away as much of the chip as you can, and buff your nails to a smooth finish. Cut a small piece of the tea bag to fit over the tear. Then, simply apply a clear base coat and apply the portion of the tea bag over the tear. Apply another layer of base coat. Once dry, apply a polish and top coat as usual. Full Tear/Broken Nail There’s nothing like a broken nail to completely ruin your manicure and maybe even your day. The good news is, it’s still possible to fix. If one of your nails has completely broken off, visit your nail tech. They can apply a nail extension tip to that nail to match the length of the rest of your nails. Voila! Like it never happened. Prevention One of the best ways to fix a chip is by preventing them with a long-lasting manicure.
